BASC is a coalition of healthcare providers, lactation consultants, and community members dedicated to promoting and supporting breastfeeding. We offer educational workshops, direct lactation support, and advocate for breastfeeding-friendly workplace policies.
Breastfeeding Friendly Sarasota Project
This initiative recognizes and supports businesses and organizations that create welcoming environments for breastfeeding. Look for our “Breastfeeding Welcome Here” decal at local establishments, signaling a commitment to supporting breastfeeding mothers.

Pump Up Sarasota
In partnership with the Junior League of Sarasota, this program offers nutrition education and practical cooking demonstrations for new mothers. Participants receive a slow cooker and ingredients to prepare healthy meals, along with assistance in obtaining breast pumps and breastfeeding supplies.
Safe Sleep Sarasota Initiative
Responding to the increase in sleep-related infant deaths, this initiative educates parents and caregivers about safe sleep practices. We provide essential support and resources to ensure the safest sleeping environment for infants.

Sleep Baby Safely
The Juvenile Welfare Board, along with a team of child safety advocates, initiated the Sleep Baby Safely campaign in response to the tragic suffocations of healthy babies sleeping unsafely. This campaign is part of the broader Prevent Needless Deaths initiative, targeting the major causes of mortality in children under six. By disseminating local statistics, straightforward messages, and memorable safety tips, Sleep Baby Safely aims to integrate safe sleep practices into the daily routines of parents, caregivers, and anyone involved in caring for infants. The campaign spans from prenatal stages to the first birthday of a baby, promoting safety measures as fundamental as the use of car seats for infants. By joining this effort, you can help ensure that more babies reach their first birthdays safely.
