The Healthy Start Coalition Invites You to Join Us!

We welcome members from the community, other agencies, health care providers, and current or former Healthy Start clients to help us achieve our mission to improve the health and well-being of pregnant women, infants, and young children in Sarasota County.

We depend on our members to assist us in formulating and reaching our short- and long-term goals.

The goal of our work is to prevent or reduce fetal and infant mortality, prematurity, and low birth weight, and to maximize the health and development of infants and children up to age three.

The Healthy Start Coalition keeps Members abreast of the latest data, initiatives, and programs to improve pregnancy and infant health in Sarasota County and beyond.

Our business meetings are only held once a quarter (March, June, September and December). This is a great opportunity to become familiar with other agencies’ services and share your expertise with us.

Here are just a few recent accomplishments of our members:

• Identified 8 major issues affecting pregnant women & infants to be addressed through our Service Delivery Plan
• Reduced Infant Mortality in Florida (Click to read more!)
• Created a countywide group of health care and social service professionals to network together for babies born addicted to drugs
• Re-established the Breastfeeding Advocates of Sarasota County and the Tobacco Cessation Workgroup
• Provided footed-sleepers to 75 babies as part of our Safe Sleep program, and provided bassinets to those completing a targeted “Beds for Babies” Safe Sleep program for African-American families  in Newtown

You’ll find them a great place to network with others who share your desire to help families in our community. And together we can accomplish astonishing goals!

If you would like to become a new member, choose one of two categories in which to join: Individual or Agency.

• If you are a single entity, you will hold an individual voting membership.
• If you work for an organization or agency, you will be either a voting member or a non-voting member. If you are the first person of your agency to join the Coalition, you will be a voting member. If your agency already has a voting member on the Coalition, you will be a non-voting member. Choose the appropriate form.

Please turn in the membership forms by fax or mail. Please note that new voting members representing an agency will have to mail in the original, signed, notarized form.
