CHAIRPERSON: Catherine “Kitty” Cranor – Kitty Cranor has been a resident of Sarasota for the past eight years. She moved here from Louisville, KY where she served on several non-profit boards including The Louisville Zoological Garden, The Kentucky Art and Craft Foundation, Actor’s Theatre, and The Kilgore Samaritan Counseling Center. She graduated from Salem College with a B.A. and The Darden School at University of Virginia with an M.B.A. in 1980. She is an active community volunteer in Sarasota, devoting her time to Tidewell Hospice, The Out-of-Door Academy, All Faiths Food Bank and Healthy Start. Kitty has been on the Executive Board since 2008 and is currently serving on the Governance Committee. She and her husband, John, have two sons.
VICE-CHAIRPERSON: Bridget Mobley – Bridget Mobley is a mother to three small children, owner and marketing director for Mommy Magazine – Sarasota ‘s Family Survival Guide. She received a bachelor’s degree in communications from the University of Tampa where she served as president of Alpha Chi Omega sorority that focused their philanthropic efforts on eradicating domestic violence. Bridget chairs various family-focused events and outreach programs and connects these family service organizations with the women and children they serve. With over fifteen years of marketing experience and a professional commitment to families, Bridget represents the communal voice of parents in our area. Bridget is currently serving on our Fundraising Committee.
SECRETARY: Dr. Donna Anderson - Donna Anderson was an Associate Professor at the University of South Florida in Tampa. Her B.A. degree is in Sociology from Southern Illinois University. She has a Ph.D. in Counselor Education from the USF as well as a M.A. and Ed.S. She is a certified Florida School Counselor and Florida Licensed Mental Health Counselor. As a professor, her teaching and research interests focused on children and families. While in Tampa, her service activities included the Ethics Committee of University Community Hospital (now Florida Hospital), the Hillsborough County Children’s Services Advisory Board, Metropolitan Ministries and the Child Abuse Council. Donna is currently the Chairperson of the Governance Committee.
TREASURER: Mary Dunn - Mary Dunn was born and raised in Michigan, moving to Sarasota over 15 years ago. She has held a number of responsible accounting and financial positions with medium sized business ~ both for and not-for profit. Mary obtained her M.B.A. with the University of Sarasota, and is now actively engaged in operations of the insurance agency she started in 2004. Mary is currently the Chairperson of the Finance Committee.
AT-LARGE, PUBLIC OFFICIAL: Sarasota City Commissioner Suzanne Atwell – Commissioner Atwell holds a Bachelor Degree in Psychology and Human Development from George Washington University and a Master Degree in Clinical Psychology from Marymount University. She began her clinical career in Sarasota at Coastal Behavioral Healthcare as an outpatient clinician. She was also employed at Jewish Family and Children’s Service (JFCS). She has worked as the Director of Development for the American Association of Community Colleges in Washington, DC, and has participated in many local civic groups such as the City of Sarasota Human Relations Board, the Sarasota County Civic League, and the Sarasota County Advisory Commission on the Status of Women. Last year, she served as Mayor of Sarasota.
AT-LARGE, BUSINESS: Laura Gilkey - Laura Gilkey is a mother of two, maternity care reform advocate, community organizer and creative marketing consultant. She is a producer, writer, and hostess of Maternally Yours on Sarasota’s Community Radio Station, WSLR 96.5. Guests have included Dr. Maya Angelou, 2011 CNN Hero of the Year Robin Lim, and 2011 Right Livelihood Laureate Ina May Gaskin.. She currently serves on the Executive Board of Directors for the Healthy Start Coalition of Sarasota County, and is Chair of the Fundraising Committee. She is the Vice President of Florida Friends of Midwives, a quilter and marketing coordinator for The Safe Motherhood Quilt Project and is the marketing manager for Michael A. Gilkey, Inc. Landscape Architects and Contractors.
AT LARGE, BUSINESS: Dale Lewis - Dale Lewis provides a wide range of consulting and problem-solving services specializing in the Green and Building Science fields with over 35 years experience in the construction industry. Dale has a B.A. in Geography from University of South Florida. Dale was born in Cleveland and grew up in Miami, FL. He has been a Sarasota resident for over 35 years and is married with two adult children. Dale currently serves on the Fundraising Committee and is an active participant in the Breastfeeding Advocates of Sarasota County.
AT LARGE: Dr. David K. Brain – David Brain is Professor of Sociology at New College of Florida. He has an M.A., Ph.D. from Harvard University, and a B.A., University of California at Berkeley. Professor Brain’s research and teaching interests focus on the connections between place-making, community-building, and civic engagement, and on sociological issues related to the planning and design of good neighborhoods, humane cities, and sustainable development at the regional scale.
AT-LARGE: Darian Poinsetta – Darian has 21 years of consulting experience including 14 years in the healthcare industry, is a certified Project Management Professional, and has expertise in directing all aspects of delivering complex change initiatives and implementing healthcare operational processes. He is currently employed as a Senior Executive at Lichlyter Consulting in Jacksonville, FL, and has also worked for companies in Kansas, California, Illinois, and Michigan. Darian has a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Mathematics and Computer Science from Lawrence Technological University in Southfield, MI. Darian currently serves on the Governance Committee.
AT LARGE: Laura Steber - Laura Steber is a pediatric registered nurse who has chaired the Sarasota Middle School PTSO Health and Wellness Fair since 2009. She has been an active PTA and PTO volunteer leader in Atlanta, GA, and Sarasota. Laura’s husband is an ad hoc member of Healthy Start Coalition’s Finance Committee and is CTO of Jackson Hewitt Tax Service. Laura currently serves on the Governance Committee.
AT LARGE: Laura Chappell – Laura is a Registered Nurse and has a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Nursing from Elmhurst College. She has over 15 years of nursing, patient care and healthcare marketing knowledge. She is the Director of Nursing at Bright Day Home Health Care. She was also employed by the State of Florida Health Department, as a Senior Community Health Nurse focusing on middle and high-school aged children. She has collaborated with a variety of educational teams to provide health services for high risk students and indigent families. Past healthcare experience also includes sales operation manager for a major healthcare marketing company. Laura has chaired and/or volunteered for the American Cancer Society, Lutheran Services of Florida, and several Sarasota PTO’s. She has a son who will be starting his junior year at DePaul University in Chicago.
AT LARGE: Dr. Kyle Garner – Dr. Garner is a local obstetrician/gynecologist and partner at Gulf Coast Obstetrics and Gynecology of Sarasota. In addition, he is also Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Sarasota Memorial Hospital and is an Assistant Clinical Professor at the Florida State College of Medicine. Dr. Garner received his Doctor of Medicine from Bowman Gray School of Medicine and completed Internship and Residency at University of Tennessee, Memphis. He is Board-Certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the American Board of Family Practice. Dr. Garner serves on Healthy Start Coalition’s Fetal and Infant Mortality Review Project, and has strong interests in patient safety and team dynamics.
AT LARGE: Debra Boterf – Debra is a Registered Nurse and has a Bachelor’s Degree in Health Care Administration. She has been at Sarasota Memorial Hospital for over 20 years and is currently the Business Manager Women’s and Children’s Services, Sarasota Memorial Health Care System. Her clinical nursing experiences were in maternal care. She also has experience in public relations and fundraising. Debra served on the Planning and Evaluation Committee of the Healthy Start Coalition of Sarasota County and helped develop the 2010-2015 Service Delivery Plan, and is currently a volunteer on our Fundraising Committee.
CYD STAR STUDENT: Celeste Albiez - Celeste Albiez is junior at Riverview High School and is enrolled in the IB program. She is an active member in clubs and partakes in many activities at her school. She was born in London, England and is one of four daughters. Celeste enjoys taking care of and helping children and is interested in aiding the pregnant women and children in our community.
EX-OFFICIO: Shelley Rence - Shelley Rence grew up in Michigan, and lived there for 40 years before relocating to Florida. She has a BA in Education from Michigan State and a MA in Guidance and Counseling from Wayne State University. She worked 6 years as a Therapist/Program Coordinator and 10 years as a Clinical Director for an outpatient Mental Health/Substance Abuse near Detroit, and was a Certified Addictions Counselor for over 12 years. In Florida, she served as a Child Protection Investigator for a year, a HS Care coordinator for 3 years and the Program Administrator for 9 years.
HONORARY: Lisa White – Lisa White is a licensed clinical social worker with the Sarasota Memorial Healthcare System. She and her husband own Sarasota Architectural Salvage and are long-time residents of Sarasota and avid supporters of local child advocacy causes. Their business received the 2011 Florida Retailer of the Year Award from the Florida Retail Federation, recognizing their commitment to their employee’s growth and well-being, and their support of local not-for-profit organizations. Lisa received a BA from New College of Florida and a Master’s Degree in psychiatric social work from Smith College School for Social Work in Northampton, MA. When not working or shuttling her two children to school and activities, she enjoys reading, running and cooking. Lisa currently serves on the Fundraising Committee.
